Testosterone optimisation

Testosterone affects much more than just muscle mass or libido. It plays a role in your energy, mood, concentration, fat distribution, sleep and even how motivated you feel. When testosterone levels are too low, you start to notice small signals – and over time, you may simply no longer feel like yourself. At IKARIA Clinics, we help men (and sometimes women) who are dealing with low testosterone. We begin with thorough testing to map your levels, and guide you through a safe, personalised treatment plan. Testosterone therapy is not a quick fix, but it can be the start of real recovery – not only physically, but mentally too.

Is this treatment the right treatment for me?

Low testosterone often creeps in unnoticed. You may feel slower, sleep less well, or take longer to recover after exercise. Perhaps your waistline has grown, your interest in sex has declined, or you find yourself becoming more easily irritated. Many men put this down to being busy, stressed, or ‘just getting older’. But often, there’s more to it. From your thirties onwards, testosterone levels naturally decline and for some, this process is faster. Lifestyle, diet, lack of sleep and chronic stress can also throw your hormones out of balance. Only a blood test can give real clarity. That’s why every TRT programme at IKARIA Clinics begins with measurements, an intake consultation and analysis, so we know exactly what’s going on, and whether treatment will truly be of benefit.
This programme is designed for:
Men who lose weight or muscle mass despite exercise and healthy nutrition.
Men who want to experience more balance and sharper focus in their daily lives.
For anyone who wants to feel at their best, physically and mentally, without waiting for symptoms to escalate.
For those who’ve tried it all, but are still searching for lasting results.

Take the test

Check your testosterone in 17 quick questions. Take the online test to find out if your symptoms could be related to low testosterone.

What can you expect?

First, we look into where your symptoms are coming from. Then we create a treatment plan tailored to your situation. At IKARIA Clinics, we start with a blood test to get a full picture of your health. If the results show that your testosterone levels are too low, treatment with testosterone may help. This is called Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). It can be given as a gel or injections, depending on what suits you best. Sometimes we combine methods to achieve the best possible result. Throughout the treatment, we closely monitor your health. Regular check-ups ensure your levels stay balanced and that you follow the programme safely and responsibly.

Our process

Our approach in three simple steps.

1.

Introduction & blood test

First, we map out your health with an introductory consultation and blood test. We look at hormones, deficiencies, inflammation markers and other health factors that may affect your testosterone levels.

2.

Tailored treatment plan

Based on the results, we create a personalised treatment plan. This may include a combination of supplements, targeted nutrition, medication and lifestyle advice. Not a standard programme, but tailored care that fits your body and your stage of life.

3.

Active guidance

In the weeks that follow, we provide active guidance. You’ll be in contact with a consultant, receive interim check-ups and we’ll make adjustments where needed. This way, the treatment supports not only your hair, but also your overall health.

What is the duration of the treatment?

You can’t build a healthy body in just a week. The duration and frequency of testosterone treatment always depend on your personal goals, your symptoms and your blood values. Your body needs time to recover. Together, we decide on the programme that suits you best.

What are possible side effects?

Een TRT can have many positive effects when there is a confirmed deficiency, such as increased energy, improved libido, greater muscle mass and a better mood. At the same time, potential side effects may occur. These side effects can be monitored effectively when the treatment is carried out under medical supervision.
Acne | Testosterone can increase sebum production, which may lead to spots or oilier skin.
Sensitive or painful injection site | With injections, the injection site may be temporarily sensitive.
Change in libido | Libido usually increases, but it may fluctuate in the beginning while the body adjusts
Water retention Some people may experience mild fluid retention, especially during the initial phase of the treatment.
Suppression of the body’s natural testosterone production | The body may produce less of its own testosterone when external testosterone is used.
Reduced fertility TRT could reduce sperm production.
A testosterone treatment can have many positive effects on energy, vitality, muscle mass and libido. At the same time, it is a medical treatment that affects several processes in the body. For that reason, it is important to start the treatment well informed. It is always advisable to discuss your concerns, symptoms, expectations, questions and personal goals beforehand. This allows a treatment plan to be developed that fits your body, health and lifestyle. Because hormones are complex and need to be monitored regularly through blood tests and evaluations, it is essential that testosterone treatment is always carried out under medical supervision. This ensures that the treatment can be started safely, monitored carefully and adjusted when necessary to achieve the best and most sustainable results.

What is included?

At IKARIA Clinics you don’t just receive a treatment, you begin a complete care pathway. Everything starts with an introduction consultation and blood test. This gives us a clear picture of your hormone balance, nutritional status, inflammation markers and other key factors.

Based on this, you’ll receive a personalised treatment plan tailored to your goals and needs. The plan may include advice on supplements, medication if needed, targeted nutrition and lifestyle adjustments. You’ll also be supported by a doctor and a consultant who monitor your progress and help you maintain the changes.

You’ll also receive interim check-ups to adjust the treatment where needed. In short: everything you need to get your health, back on track.
Blood test (hormones, deficiencies, inflammation)
One-to-one guidance from a doctor and consultant
Personalised treatment plan
Advice on supplements and medication
Regular check-ups with adjustments where needed

What does the treatment cost?

We always start with an introductory consultation and blood test (€199). After that, we’ll discuss which treatment programme suits you best. The costs depend on the length and intensity of the programme, always clear and with no surprises.

Intake consultation (including a body scan & start of the treatment) €295,-
Second consultation (six weeks later, second treatment): €150,-
Follow up appointment (every 8, 10 or 12 weeks, inclusive of consultation and treatments) €150,- per consult

Medication and laboratory tests are covered by most health insurers. Some supplementary insurance plans also provide partial reimbursement for consultations. You can check this with your insurer (Dr Ingrid Kuiper, BIG registration number: 19042361601). Consultations are not covered by the basic insurance. Payment is required immediately after your appointment at the clinic. We accept debit card or credit card.

Why is this programme beneficial?

Many men try to tackle their symptoms on their own with supplements, more exercise or better sleep. That can help temporarily, but often the feeling remains that you’re not really making progress. This is because low testosterone isn’t an isolated problem – it’s a signal of a deeper imbalance in your hormones and metabolism.

At IKARIA Clinics we look beyond the symptoms. We measure, analyse and treat the underlying causes. With a comprehensive blood test, we gain insight not only into your hormone levels but also into factors such as blood sugar, fat regulation, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Our approach is effective as we:
Are science-based | all treatments are based on medical insights and evidence-based methods
Offer personalised care | no cookie-cutting solutions, but a personalised treatment plan that is in line with your health and goals.
Look at the total package | we analyse at all elements - your nutrition, lifestyle, blood and hormone levels.
Lasting results No short term fixes, but lasting results to restore your energy and vitality.

That’s why our clients notice not only an improvement in their testosterone levels, but also feel stronger, more energetic and more confident overall, at home, at work and in their social life.

Frequently asked questions about testosterone replacement therapy

Why does my body need testosterone?

Testosterone is mainly produced in the testicles, and to a lesser extent in the adrenal glands. The hormone is essential for:

  • Building muscle, balancing fat and maintaining a healthy weight
  • Bone strength and bone marrow production
  • Libido en erectiekwaliteit
  • Mental balance, mood, and the prevention of depressive feelings.

A lack of testosterone can therefore have a significant impact on your health as well as your overall zest for life.

Can I combine this with other medication or treatments?

Yes. Our doctors tailor the treatment plan to your medical situation. If needed, we will consult with your GP or specialist.

How does the treatment work?

If our blood test shows that your testosterone level is too low, treatment with testosterone may offer a solution. This is called Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). TRT can be given as a gel, injections or capsules, depending on what suits you best. In some cases we combine methods to achieve the best possible result. Throughout the treatment, we monitor your health closely. Regular check-ups ensure that your levels stay balanced and that you follow your treatment safely and responsibly.

What are the risks of a testosterone treatment?

Testosterone therapy is generally well tolerated. The treatment is not recommended for men with prostate cancer, severe heart conditions, significant urinary symptoms, or for men who still want to have children. At the start, you may notice some mild side effects, such as slight hair shedding or a few breakouts. That’s why we monitor you carefully with blood tests and regular check-ups, ensuring your treatment stays safe and balanced.
