Expected weight loss
The weight loss you can anticipate while using GLP-1 injections, such as Saxenda or Ozempic, varies, but there is a general pattern to follow:

First few weeks | Initially, your weight loss is often modest in the first few weeks, usually around 0.5 to 1 kg weekly. This is because your body has to get used to the medicine, and it helps regulate your appetite.

Long-term | After the initial adjustment period, weight loss can continue to average 1 kg per week, depending on your diet, physical activity, and adherence to the treatment plan.

It is essential to know that weight loss is a gradual process. Slower, consistent weight loss often leads to more sustainable results. Rapid weight loss can be challenging to maintain, sometimes leading to muscle mass loss instead of fat.

How does GLP-1 work?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) operates through several mechanisms in the body that help with weight loss.

Increasing satiety | The GLP-1 hormone plays a role in your satiety, making you less likely to feel hungry and reducing food intake.

Delayed stomach emptying | The GLP-1 hormone slows stomach emptying, meaning the food remains in the stomach longer. This prolongs the feeling of fullness after meals, making you less likely to snack between meals or overeat.

Reducing appetite | GLP-1 acts on the brain, especially the hypothalamus, to reduce appetite, leading to a lower caloric intake.
